A Guide to Success!Welcome to our new 2015 Perth Kilt Run Course!

Some things to know:

1. The Course starts in front of the Town Hall on Gore Street
2. The course loops back through the Start-Line...you run through the Start, proceeding to 2K
3. When the race begins - move as fast as possible past the Start line, and Past Harvey Street!
(You will note that the faster runners, are heading toward the Start Line as the last runners are leaving. You must be past Harvey Street (about 100 meters from the Start Line) ..before they come!)
4. We have made the Start Line 10 Feet wider this year for a faster start!!
5. We are using the "March to the Start" as a way to "seed the runners this year. Please try to get behind your speed sign at 5:50pm (<50 minutes, or > 50 Minutes). Its a small change, but hopefully help the flow out of the start.

It's going to be a blast!
Runners March to the Start !!!

The Runners March to the Start is not to be missed! This is an aspect unique to the Perth Kilt Run among all the runs in the world. And this years will be more amazing than ever.!

We have added a second Highland Band to the march this year, This allows us to "seed" the runners. Those people that are feeling a little faster, should line up behind Highland Band#1 which will have the sign "Under 50 Minutes" (equivalent to less than 30 minutes if you have run a 5K race). And everyone else should line up behind Highland Band#2 - which will have the sign "Over 50 Minutes"

Shortly after 5:30pm, you will hear the beautiful sound of the bagpipes coming from around the "Band Stand" area behind Town Hall - beside Stewart Park ... on Market Square. All runners are to report to this area, and assemble behind the band that fits your running speed. March starts at 5:50pm

Why join the March to the Start? Well for one thing, the wee "10 minute" stroll, is the perfect way to warm up the muscles and get them ready for the race soon to begin. The March is also a great way to get a feel for the last 500 metres of the race. Joining the March will help us "seed" the runners, which will make the start more efficient. And finally, being part of the March is just a chance to be a part of something awesome!!!

Perth Kilt Run weekend is a family affair with something for all ages and interests. If baking is your schtick, why not put your skills to the test and enter the 2015 baking competition - this year, featuring the ever popular and truly Scottish oatmeal cookie?

Again this year there are two categories of bakers - "kids" (under 16) and "adults" (16 or older). There are cash prizes, souvenir aprons and flashy ribbons to be won, in addition to bragging rights. The panel of judges will evaluate the entries based on appearance, flavour, texture and “Scotts appeal”.

Are you up for the challenge? Entry forms and instructions are available from The Running Goat (at 74 Foster St., Perth, Ontario) or download it from here. Baking entries (at least 3 cookies, more if you want to feed the runners) must be dropped off at Stewart Park between 11 am and 1 pm on Saturday June 20th. Winners will be announced at 4 pm, wrapping up in time to cheer on the youngest Kilt Runners.

Perth's World Record Kilt Runhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12721269594614878901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4622949233852506532.post-65794919701358880752015-03-17T17:56:00.000-04:002015-03-17T17:57:39.660-04:00A Special Disposition ....
A special disposition, by His Grace; Lord Darnley...

In recognition, of the date, March 24 (1603)- on which Scottish King James VI, became also King James I of England and Ireland.... let it be known, that the Perth Kilt Run has made a one time extension of the regular kilt run entry fee, and kilt order deadline to March 24/15!

FINAL LAST CHANCE - ENTER HERE:X

It being already known by in the Perth Kilt Run Realm, but herewith stated again ... that James VI was the only son of Mary, Queen of Scots and her husband, Lord Darnley. He was born in Edinburgh Castle on 19 June 1566, and then on 24 March 1603 James achieved his lifelong ambition when Queen Elizabeth I died and he inherited the throne of England (& Ireland). He grew up to be a shrewd, wary intellectual who managed to reconcile the warring factions among his nobility with such success that he has been described as 'the most effective ruler Scotland ever had'! But some, such as the King Henri IV of France had other opinions, calling James 'the wisest fool in Christendom'. (jealous being a terrible thing!).
PS ... Yes, we had another reason too ... our EMC advertisement - which was to advice of the final kilt order date, and regular entry fee ending - is not coming out until this weeks paper. We felt it worth to ensure the local readers did not miss out on the entry date, therefore we have delayed the date by one week. For those that have, or will make the expected date of March 17 - we thank you for your diligence. A new year...a new run route!

Here is a first look at our new 2015, 5mile/8K Kilt Run route. It maintains the historic and interesting features of last year's course - except for running in a reverse direction! It also has a unique feature of passing through the start line at the first mile ... so all your fans can cheer you a second time!
This course will also allow us to do some spectacular new things in 2016 (but more about that after you finish this years run!)

Please note - our site map link is not active at this time, and this map may be subject to minor changes pending final course certification this spring

Dear Kilt Runners, here we are again embarking on the kilt run journey. The year of 2014 was spectacular ... with no fewer than six officials kilt runs - all aiming to break the record for the world's largest kilt run. The very last attempt, was held in Perth, Australia in September. The big news out of that event .... the overall winner was Thor Stewart from our own Kilt Run here in Perth Canada! (shown far left in red t-shirt).

The Race Director this year is Mary Stewart (yes, mother of the fastest kilt runner in Australia). Her committee has already been hard at work, and we are expecting new and exciting things for the 2015 event. One of the changes will be a modification of the race route ... a change made by the 2016 committee - which is already at work for our major event to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Perth. But lets not get too far ahead of ourselves ... first is 2015, on June 20. The blog will be updating the different pages and links in the coming days - so stay tuned!
